Iowa Natives invites submissions. We’re seeking true stories and thoughtful reflections rooted in Iowa’s land, waters, and native life. We welcome submissions in the following categories:

• Creative Nonfiction — True stories about encounters in Iowa’s wild places or with Iowa’s native flora and fauna. We especially love writing that reveals quiet discoveries or deepens our sense of belonging to place.

• Actions and Organizations — Informational pieces about what everyday Iowans can do to get involved in environmental stewardship. This might include ecological nonprofits, local initiatives, volunteer projects, or simple ways to support native ecosystems.

• People and Profession — Share your story, your field experiences, or a glimpse into your work and what drives you.

• Stewardship Stories — These pieces highlight personal at-home efforts to restore, protect, or reimagine Iowa’s landscapes.

 

Submission details:

• Word count: 500–2,000 words (we are somewhat flexible on this)

• Include hyperlinks to support factual content (links to organizations or support for claims)
